Central Idea of the Text: While waiting for ten years on God’s promise for posterity, Abram and Sarai determine to take matters into their own hands by using Hagar to secure offspring. But their attempt to accomplish God’s promise their own way leads to conflict, blame, and mistreatment forces Hagar who is pregnant into the wilderness. Yet, in grace, the Lord meets her there, hears her suffering, and promises a future for her and her son, showing that even when God’s people fail, God remains faithful to His promises and sees those who are suffering.
