Central Idea of the Text: After Abram refuses the wealth of Sodom, the Lord comes to him in a vision stating that He will be his shield and great reward. At the time, Abram is still childless and does not have the possession of the promised land and yet Abram brings his questions before God. The Lord answers with the promise that his offspring will be as numerous as the stars and the land of Canaan will be his inheritance. Abram believes the Lord, and God credits it to him as righteousness. In covenant, God binds Himself to fulfill everything He promised.
