Scripture Reading
Isaiah 55

Discussion
Key Verses:
"Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price."

Theme:
Isaiah 55 is an invitation from God, calling people to come to Him, receive His grace, and trust in His Word. It is a message of grace in salvation, God’s higher ways, and the power of His Word.

  • Come Receive God’s Blessing in His Covenant (55:1-5)
    • The urgency to embrace God’s invitation (vv. 1-3)
    • The lasting impact of His covenant (vv. 4-5)
  • Come Repent and Trust His Word (55:6-13)
    • Seek God’s mercy through repentance (vv. 6-9)
    • The certainty and power of God’s Word (vv. 10-11)
    • The transformation and joy found in God’s work (vv. 12-13)

Discussion Questions:

  1. What does it mean to be "thirsty" in verse 1? Is this talking about physical thirst or something deeper?
  2. Why does God offer this gift without money and without price? (Hint: Can we earn salvation?)
  3. What are some things in life that people chase after but never truly satisfy them (v. 2)?
  4. How does this passage remind us of Jesus in John 4:14 (the living water)?
  5. How does following Christ bring joy and peace (v. 12)?

Pray

Response
Read — Romans 12:1-2 — “Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.”

Idea for Families with Young Children
Supplies: A glass of water and a salty snack (pretzels, crackers).

  • Give your kids a salty snack and let them eat it.
  • Ask: "How do you feel after eating that? Thirsty?"
  • Reread Isaiah 55:1: "Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters."
  • Explain: Just like we need water when we’re thirsty, our hearts need Jesus. Only He can satisfy us!
